Different Types of Electric Poles

Different types of electric poles are used for carrying of overhead line, including wooden poles, concrete poles, steel poles, and rail poles. The selection of poles that are to be used depends on the
importance of weight, location, and area, cost effect of such assembly, such as maintenance cost, and keeping its profit element in mind. For all phases, in low voltage lines in the natural and earth, the mostly single-pole line is employed.
There are various types of poles employed in the electrical system. Let’s
discuss these poles.

Wooden Electric Poles

In the former period, wooden poles were usually employed for 400 volts and 230 volts L.T. line and 11 K.V. H.T. line in an enormous way. In some instances, for 33 K.V. lines, usually, wooden poles are employed. The charges of a wooden pole are much less in contrast to other types of electric poles, and the outflow incurred for its basis is also comparatively very less. If proper upkeep and handling are done on the wood, the wooden pole lasts for a lasting period.

Concrete Electric Poles

Concrete poles are divided into two types R.C.C. and P.C.C. In the current time, P.C.C. poles are employed in 11 K.V. and 400/230-volt system to a huge scale, apart from this, P.C.C. poles in 33KV H.T. Line are also. This type of poles is expensive than a wooden pole but economical than a steel pole. A special concrete electric pole machine is used for the manufacturing of these poles. The concrete poles have a longer life, and the maintenance cost is slight. The strength of the P.C.C. Pole is excellent in contrast to the other types of poles. As it is made with the help of a machine, the concrete poles are stronger, durable, and resistant to all types of external factors.
